Privacy policy
Short version: ARQAboard runs on your computer. Your boards, images and client markups never reach us. We only handle the minimum needed to sell you a licence and answer your emails.
1. Who is responsible
Connor Lawrie, trading as ARQAboard, 110 Hilton Road, Cowdenbeath, KY4 9AW, Scotland, is the data controller. Contact: our support address.
2. The app
- Your work stays on your computer. Boards, images, PDFs and markups are saved in files on your own machine. We can’t see them.
- No tracking. The app does not collect usage analytics or crash reports.
- Licence activation. When you enter a licence key, the app sends the key and your computer’s name to Lemon Squeezy, our payment and licensing provider, to check it is valid and count the computers it is used on. While a licence is active, the app re-checks it about once a week when you’re online.
- Updates. A few times a day the app asks GitHub, where we publish new versions, whether there is a newer one, and downloads it if there is. GitHub sees your IP address, as with any download. No information about you or your work is sent.
- Current offer. During the free trial the app reads a short text file from our website with the current price offer. Our website host, Cloudflare, sees your IP address. Nothing else is sent.
- Feedback. Rate us and Send feedback open your own email app with a message for you to send. It includes your rating, comments, app version, Windows version and whether you’re on the trial or a licence. Nothing is sent unless you press Send.
- Review files. When you share a board for review, you create an encrypted file and send it yourself. It doesn’t pass through us. Anything your clients add is returned to you the same way.
3. When you buy
Lemon Squeezy runs our checkout as the merchant of record. They collect your name, email address, billing address and payment details, and share with us your name, email address, country, what you bought and your licence key. We use these to provide your licence, handle refunds and support, and keep accounting records. Lemon Squeezy’s handling of your data is covered by their privacy policy.
4. When you email us
We keep your emails and contact details so we can reply, help with your licence and run the feedback prize draw if you enter it. We don’t use them for marketing unless you ask to join a mailing list or waitlist, and you can leave at any time. If you join the Mac waitlist, we keep your email address with our email provider only to tell you when the Mac version is ready, then delete it.
5. This website
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, see which pages are read and which sites send people here. It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t identify you and doesn’t follow you across other sites. If you arrive through a referral link, our payment partner Lemon Squeezy uses a cookie to remember who referred you, so they get credit if you buy. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard technical information (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.
6. Legal basis and how long we keep data
We process purchase and licence data to perform our contract with you, and keep accounting records because the law requires it (normally 6 years). We keep support emails for as long as needed to help you, and no more than 3 years after your last contact.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email us and we’ll respond within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If we ever add features that send data from the app, we’ll update this policy before they go live.
